Providing Local Fresh Produce in Devon
When the Bartlett family heard that they were lucky enough to acquire Hayne Farm, back in February 2009, they saw it as a huge opportunity. The two sisters, Nicola and Rebecca Bartlett, seized the chance to run their own Devon Farm Shop business and later a Coffee Shop. The girls both had a huge understanding of the industry after working at an award winning farm shop and ice cream parlour for a number of years.
With Nicola being the assistant manager in the shop, and Rebecca assisting in the ice cream side of things, they were a huge part of the business. When they decided to leave those jobs back in May 2009, it was a massive gamble to be taking and was extremely hard starting up a new enterprise from scratch.
In 2012 we expanded next door to open our Coffee Shop as another outlet for our local produce to the local community. We also make a lot of in-house cakes and scones to sell in both the Coffee Shop and Farm Shop in a further effort to lower food miles and have higher control over quality.
Hayne Farm is a dairy, beef and sheep farm. The farm is run by Leonard and Angela and their son Jack. The farm provides the majority of beef and lamb, but the shop also sources from other local farmers. The pork is also produced in the local area.
The Farm Shop sells a large variety of local produce with a fresh meat and deli counter. Meat is hung for at least 21 days for maximum flavour and tenderness. Our Taste of the West award-winning Sausages and Burgers are all made on site.
We also stock a wide range of fresh vegetables making the most of what is available in the current season. Chutneys and preserves from Waterhouse Fayre, Rose Farm & Otter Vale; freshly baked bread from Paul’s in Seaton; eggs from Devon Eggs, and chicken from Creedy Carver at Crediton and Ark Chicken at Silverton.
